Maanya Gulati
Data Science Intern
Client: Analytics Advisory Group (AAG)
I worked with AAG as a rising senior in high school. That summer was very crucial for me because of college applications. I needed to choose a major and I needed to do it soon or else my college applications would not be complete. In school, I had been taking computer science classes, however none of them helped in cultivating my interest in the field. Computer science
seemed like the worst choice for me however Ajay really helped in fixing that.
It began as an offer to help me with my resume. That was not through AAG, Ajay was merely doing it out of the kindness of his heart. I took him up on the offer and he helped me with my resume throughout the summer both when I was and wasn’t an intern. From there, Ajay mentioned a training in SQL that he was giving. For the sake of a new opportunity, I accepted the training and after the training, he offered me the internship which I accepted as well.
As one of the two high schoolers on a team that was comprised of college students, I originally thought that the task of working as their equal would be daunting. However we all became very fast friends and from there, worked on the Alexa project for a little over two months. Saying it was easy would be a lie. However, the difficulties I encountered alongside the team made the
internship even more fruitful and memorable. There was plenty of laughter and an equal part of stress however in all honesty, I wouldn’t change it for anything. We all learned skills we would never find at this age anywhere else.
The experience I had as an AAG intern completely changed my opinion on computer science as my field of study in college. Without AAG, I wouldn’t be at this position in my life. I have so much more experience and now know that the field truly has no boundaries when it comes to innovation. Who would’ve thought using an Alexa in the way we have been experimenting is possible?
I am so grateful that Ajay gave me this experience and am excited to see where this project and company goes in the future. There is not a situation I can think of in which this internship won’t come up as a life changing experience.
