Alexander Chan
Data Analyst Intern
Client: Austin Regional Clinic (ARC)
My 2018 Data Analytics summer internship with AAG was a blast! Ajay is an excellent teacher and makes every effort to mentor his team when the opportunity arises. When I first started the internship, I thought that I would just be working on various bugs for the client. It turned out most of it was building the new architecture that would redo the client’s supplemental file generation – a project that could net an enormous ROI for the client. This meant moving processes from using scripts to using stored procedures and making data manipulation table driven. We also had the opportunity to redo a lot of the DW build process to reorganize schema levels and make DW re-builds more efficient.
Throughout the internship, I can say that my technical skills, such as SQL coding, and soft skills, whether it be leadership, communication, or team work, improved drastically. In addition to working with the AAG team, it was also exciting to get to work directly with the client; for example, within the first week, the intern team had already been given the opportunity to present to the client. Rather than receiving the normal intern ‘grunt work,’ we had the opportunity to dive deep and get our hands dirty.
Overall, I would say that my experience working with AAG was not only fun but also rewarding. Ajay made sure the interns master their understanding of the material and encouraged us to go beyond normal expectations.
For anyone that is interested in analytics, I would recommend reaching out to Ajay. He’s a master in his work and loves to teach it to others. If you have any questions about my experience, feel free to reach out anytime, and let’s get in touch!
