Analytics Project Intern
Client: Analytics Advisory Group (AAG)
Working with Ajay as a summer project intern has truly been an enriching and rewarding experience. With a previous background in Supply Chain, AAG provided me with an excellent opportunity to foray into data science and analytics in the real world.
Entering this new sphere, I was excited and at the same time anxious but Ajay always proved to be a mentor before being a boss. I was introduced to the field of predictive analytics wherein I worked on predicting the Length of Stay (LoS) for patients of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary diseases (COPD) using the CRISP-DM methodology. Ajay’s lucid understanding of the technical concepts and guidance ensured my introduction to Supervised Machine Learning techniques came out to be rather smooth and seamless. Ajay has got an eye for making valuable outcomes from raw data and always encouraged me to get to the minutest granularity of the data.
This experience also introduced me to the healthcare domain and now I appreciate how an accurate prediction of LoS can help in effective resource management and at the same time bring down costs significantly. This prediction problem gave me a chance to understand and use the concepts of Support Vector Machines and Linear Regression in my R code. The explicate visualizations using various R packages further enhanced my skills to present effectively to a non-technical audience.
When it comes to following ethics, Ajay is a forthright person. Although I had a different model to develop, Ajay always insisted me to work along with other interns and is a big advocate of team work. This gave me a chance to learn about the work of other interns simultaneously. As a result, I could understand the concepts of ARIMA modeling, MCA and Time Series Analysis and at the same time I got a critical audience before which I presented my work. He always stressed that your concepts and presentations should be clear and simple enough to make even a non-technical person to understand it easily. I am sure, this internship is the best start to cement the foundations of my analytics career.
I would recommend Ajay highly for anyone who wants to get into the field of analytics. He doesn’t look for anyone to have a background in this field but what he considers is inquisitiveness, honesty, and a willingness to work hard. I would also suggest everyone to follow the ethics associated with AAG diligently as these are the guiding principles with which he lives by!
