Sangeeta Warrier
Analytics Intern
Client: Analytics Advisory Group (AAG)
I worked as a Data Analytics Intern for AAG, during the summer of 2018. I worked with, and led the AWS team, where our goal was to develop, test and deploy a data warehouse (DWH) in healthcare. Being a graduate student doing research in machine learning for precision medicine, this project aligned with my research interests. I developed a myriad of skills that I know will be extremely useful. These include, but are not limited to: SQL and Python, database design and development. I also got to dabble in some cloud computing, as we migrated the database onto an RDS instance on the AWS cloud. Our work with the database allowed integration with interns working in the ALEXA team who were looking to extract data to be used by the Amazon Echo device.
Additionally, I truly valued my interactions with my fellow team members, a group of likeminded and driven individuals. I am extremely grateful to have had Ajay as a mentor. He was extremely approachable during the internship, and made time for us, to answer questions and help us with our projects. Most importantly, he taught us how to troubleshoot issues on our own, which I think is a particularly valuable life skill. He maintained a lovely balance between helping us when needed, but also allowing us to grapple with problems long enough to really solidify ideas.
Apart from guidance with regards to our project, Ajay also gave me some excellent career advice that I will find very useful as I wrap up my PhD program and look to start my career as a data scientist. My internship with AAG has been an incredible experience and has inspired me further to delve deeper into the field of data analytics.
